Sexual health counselling is for all men who have sex with men, regardless of your HIV status, age, ethnic origin or physical ability.
It gives you somewhere to discuss anything about your sexuality or sexual practice that may be bothering you. It may be that you like having sex with men but find it difficult to think of yourself as gay; you may be having problems in your relationship with your partner; perhaps you are worried about not practising safer sex, or anxious about the impact of drugs or alcohol on your sexual practice.
It can be hard to talk to friends about these issues for fear of burdening them, or because it seems like they wouldn’t understand.
PACE provides a neutral space for you to come and share your problems with a counsellor.
Instead of judging you or telling you what to do, we will listen to your anxieties, talk them through with you, and help you to clarify and make sense of them yourself. Sexual health counselling can help you to understand yourself, the way you feel, and the way you behave.
It’s only when you understand yourself that you can think about changing what you don’t like - or really see what you do like. We offer up to six free 50-minute weekly sessions. You can come to these on your own or with your partner.
To make an appointment
Call us on 020 7700 1323. You will be invited to attend an initial consultation to meet a counsellor to discuss whether counselling at PACE would suit your needs. If not then we can suggest other organisations that could help you. After the initial consultation you will be held on a waiting list until a suitable counsellor is available. The more flexible you can be about your availability, the sooner we can usually find a counsellor to work with you.
You do not need to be referred by your GP.
Confidentiality
All our counselling is completely confidential. PACE has a confidentiality policy that your counsellor will explain to you at your assessment appointment.
Complaints
We make every effort to provide you with a service of the highest quality and standard. If you are dissatisfied with the service that you receive, we have a complaints policy that you can access at any point.
Costs
Our sexual health counselling is free of charge. However, as PACE is a charity, all donations are very welcome.
